Understanding Hoarding Behaviors

Originally Presented on January 23, 2013

“Hoarding” is both a mental health and social issue. It will become a separate psychiatric “diagnosis” under the new DSM V in 2013.

This hour and a half presentation discusses the proposed diagnostic criteria under the DSM and how it may lead to more understanding and specialized treatment for this complicated disorder. The need to differentiate “hoarding” as a behavior versus “hoarding” as an illness will be emphasized.

A community approach utilizing cross system collaboration will be stressed for dealing with the complexity of treatment for individuals who have “hoarding” behaviors.

This webinar was presented by Linda Shumaker, RN-BC, MA.
